The short version

We collect what you send us (contact form and newsletter) and basic usage data through Google Analytics.
We don’t sell your personal information or show personalized ads.
Retailers may set cookies when you click affiliate links.
You can ask us to access or delete your data at any time.

Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run the site, answer messages and send the newsletter to people who ask for it.

Information you give us

Contact form: your name, email address, the topic you choose, an optional page link, and your message.
Newsletter: your email address and, if you provide it, your first name.
Emails you send us: your email address and whatever you include in the message.

Information collected automatically

Usage data: pages viewed, time on page, referring site, approximate location (city or country level), device type, browser and operating system, collected through Google Analytics.
Server logs: our web host records IP addresses, browser type and request times to keep the site secure and working.
Cookies and similar technologies: described in the cookies section below.

We don’t knowingly collect sensitive information such as financial, health or government ID details, and we ask that you don’t send it to us.

Cookies and tracking

Cookies are small files stored in your browser. HomeProjectBase uses these types:

Essential cookies: needed for the site and contact form to work, including spam protection.
Analytics cookies: Google Analytics 4 uses cookies to measure how visitors use the site. We use this data in aggregate and don’t use it to identify you.
Affiliate cookies: when you click a product link, the retailer or affiliate network (such as Amazon) may set a cookie so it can credit us if you make a purchase. That cookie is set and controlled by the retailer, under its own privacy policy.

Where required by law, we ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies. You can change your choice at any time through the cookie settings link in our footer, and you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking cookies won’t stop you from reading the site.

You can also opt out of Google Analytics across all websites with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Third-party services

We use trusted service providers to run the site. They process data on our behalf or under their own privacy policies:

Google Analytics and Google Search Console (Google LLC): site usage and search performance. See Google’s privacy policy.
WPForms: processes contact form submissions on our website.
[Newsletter provider, e.g. MailerLite or Mailchimp]: stores newsletter subscriber emails and sends our emails.
[Web host name]: hosts the website and keeps server logs.
Google Fonts and Gravatar: load fonts and author images, which shares your IP address with Google and Automattic when a page loads.
Affiliate partners, including Amazon Associates: track purchases made through our links. See our affiliate disclosure.

We share personal information only with these providers, when required by law, or to protect our rights and the safety of others.

How long we keep information

Contact messages: up to 24 months, then deleted unless we need them for an ongoing conversation or legal reason.
Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe, after which your email is removed or kept only on a suppression list so we don’t email you again.
Analytics data: retained in Google Analytics for up to 14 months.
Server logs: kept by our host for a limited period, usually under 30 days.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

Know what personal information we hold about you and get a copy of it
Correct inaccurate information
Delete your information
Withdraw consent, such as unsubscribing from the newsletter or changing cookie choices
Object to or restrict certain processing
Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we don’t sell personal information)

California residents

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended, you have the rights to know, delete, correct and opt out described above, and we won’t treat you differently for using them. We don’t sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Visitors from the EU and UK

Under the GDPR and UK GDPR, we process your information based on your consent (newsletter and non-essential cookies), our legitimate interests (site security and improving our guides), and to respond to messages you send us. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. We’ll respond within the time required by applicable law and may need to verify your identity first.

Security and international transfers

We use reasonable safeguards, including HTTPS encryption and access-restricted accounts, to protect your information. No website can guarantee complete security.

HomeProjectBase is operated from [country], and our service providers may store data in the United States and other countries. When information moves across borders, we rely on our providers’ legal safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

Children’s privacy

HomeProjectBase is written for adults and isn’t directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our tools or the law change. The “last updated” date at the top shows the latest version. If we make a significant change, we’ll note it on this page.
