Who we’re looking for

We want contributors with hands-on experience in what they write about: licensed plumbers, electricians and HVAC technicians, general contractors, landscapers, tool and equipment specialists, and homeowners who have taken on serious projects themselves.

Your expertise matters more than polished writing. If you know the subject, our editors will help shape the article.

What we publish

We accept buying guides, product comparisons, how-to guides and troubleshooting articles in our six categories. Whether you want to write for us on tools, lawn and garden, cleaning or home repair, the article should help a homeowner choose, fix or finish something.

  • ToolsPower tools, shop vacs, air compressors, nailers and saws
  • Yard & OutdoorSnow blowers, mowers, leaf blowers, chainsaws and pressure washers
  • CleaningCarpet cleaners, vacuums and floor care for every surface
  • Air & WaterAir purifiers, dehumidifiers, water filters and softeners
  • Home MaintenanceWater heaters, generators, sump pumps and safety detectors
  • GarageFloor coatings, door openers and garage storage

We don’t accept

  • Promotional articles for a brand, product or service you sell
  • Home decor, real estate, finance, CBD, gambling or other off-topic content
  • Articles already published anywhere else, including your own site
  • Content written mainly by AI

Content standards

  • Original and exclusive. Written for HomeProjectBase only and never published elsewhere.
  • Based on your experience. Tell readers what you’ve installed, fixed, used or seen fail.
  • Backed by primary sources. Specs, prices and safety claims link to manufacturer documentation, ENERGY STAR, the CPSC or similar sources.
  • Safety-first. Say clearly when a job needs a licensed professional, a permit or a code check.
  • Substantial. Around 1,200 words or more, in plain language, with no filler.
  • Human-written. AI tools can help you edit, but you write the article and you’re responsible for every claim in it.

Every guest article goes through our Editorial Policy and How We Research process, the same as our own guides.

Credit and links

Your byline

Published articles carry your name and a short author bio with your trade, experience and credentials.

One contextual link

You may include one link to your own website inside the article body, where it genuinely helps the reader. Our editors review every link and may change or remove it. The link must:

  • Point to a relevant, useful page, not a homepage, sales page or affiliate link
  • Use natural anchor text that fits the sentence, not a keyword-stuffed phrase
  • Lead to a site that’s related to home improvement and free of spam

No paid placements

We don’t sell guest posts, sponsored articles or links, and we don’t accept payment to publish. Any pitch offering payment is declined.

How to pitch

Email [email protected] with the subject line Guest Post Pitch: [Your topic] and include:

  • Your name, trade or background, and years of experience
  • Two or three topic ideas, each with a one-line angle
  • Why you’re the right person to write about them
  • Links to one or two writing samples, if you have them

Please pitch an idea first. We don’t review finished articles sent without a pitch.

What happens next

  1. We review your pitch

Our Head of Research & Editorial, Neil Nadder, reviews every pitch. If it’s a fit, we’ll reply within 7 business days. If you don’t hear back by then, it isn’t a fit this time.

  2. You get a brief

We agree on the angle, the reader it’s for and a deadline for your draft.

  3. We fact-check and edit

We check facts and sources, edit for clarity and may adjust the headline, structure or wording. You’ll see the final version before it goes live.

  4. Your article is published

It usually goes live 2 to 4 weeks after we accept the final draft, and we keep it updated like our own guides.

Frequently asked questions

Does HomeProjectBase accept home improvement guest posts?

Yes, from contributors with real experience in the topic, such as tradespeople, contractors and experienced DIYers. Send a pitch first rather than a finished article.

Do you pay guest contributors?

Not at the moment. Contributors get a byline, an author bio and one contextual link to their own website.

Can I buy a sponsored post or a link?

No. HomeProjectBase doesn’t sell guest posts, sponsored articles or links, and pitches offering payment are declined.

Can I republish my article on my own site?

No. Articles stay exclusive to HomeProjectBase. You’re welcome to share the link and quote a short excerpt with a link back.

Can I use AI to write my guest post?

AI tools can help with editing, but the article must be written by you and based on your own experience. Articles written mainly by AI are declined.

How long does it take to get published?

We reply to pitches that fit within 7 business days, and accepted articles usually go live 2 to 4 weeks after the final draft is approved.
